3/18/2010 10:02 PM  Welcome back SportsBuzz Nation. As you all know it’s that time of the year. Time for all of us amateur Dick Vitales to come out and start enlightening others to the fact that “Awesome” starts with a Capital A. It’s also time to fill out those brackets with our best guesses as too which team from some conference we’ve never heard of is going to step up and destroy and I do mean DESTROY are perfectly articulated brackets. So without further adieu here’s the Fan’s Interference guide to the 2010 NCAA Tournament. Updated to include all games ending around 10 pm Thursday. SHOCKERS: AKA Bracket busters and let me tell you, they have already busted my brackets! 1. OHIO U. BOBCATS -- The MAC tournament champion didn’t just beat the Hoyas of the Big East they dismantled them in ways that are usually reserved for Top seeded beat downs on overmatched 16 seeds. The Hoyas did claw their way back into it late but Ohio just hit shot after shot and finished off with a 97-83 program defining win and a ticket into the second round vs. Tennessee/San Diego State winner. PERSONAL PREDICTION: Well I had San Diego State beating Georgetown in the second round so as long as San Diego State wins I’m still good. 2. MURRAHY STATE RACERS: Well the Racers went ahead and Raced into the second round and right on by SEC member Vanderbilt. It took every last second the clock would afford them but the Racers sent Vanderbilt packing at the last second, earning themselves a date with Butler. PERSONAL PREDICTION: Well I can at least say I didn’t have Vandy going any farther than round two. Unfortunately I didn’t have Butler. I had UTEP over Butler, over Vanderbilt and over Syracuse. Ouch! That’s the sound of my bracket slowly breaking apart. 3. OLD DOMINION MONARCHS: I just have one thing to say. This is the ABSOLUTE LAST TIME that this Wolverine fan ever relies on the Fighting Irish to do anything right. Notre Dame once again fell on their face losing to the Monarchs 51-50. Know normally anytime an Irish team fails miserably I’m usually quite happy but….. PERSONAL PREDICTION: It seems that Old Dominion didn’t do me any favors. I had ND beating Baylor in the next round on one bracket. On another I had Baylor doing the damage and in yet another I had ND beating Baylor and Villanova. What was I thinking? Honorable Mention: ROBERT MORRIS COLONIALS -- Sending Villanova to Overtime before finally falling by just 3. That’s definitely Honorable Mention worthy. Now had they won, then yes I would have just tossed the bracket in the trash and watched movies for the next 3 weeks. Villanova resides in my Final Four in every bracket I have. Let’s just say it was a very trying time during this one. WHO I’M ROUTING FOR NOW TO SAVE MY BRACKET: Not that it’s overly savable but I could really really use the following few teams to win a few games. KANSAS JAYHAWKS Yes like 95% of America I too couldn’t find a good reason to NOT have the Jayhawks winning the whole thing. OHIO STATE BUCKEYES Yes I know, not only did I hope the Irish would help me out, I’ve also put many many eggs in the Evan Turner and company’s basket. I’ve got them going out to the Elite Eight before surrendering to the Jayhawks. Please Buckeyes try not to let me down. KANSAS STATE: Not a huge stretch but I did pick the Cougars in my Final Four so as long as they keep dominating like they did today against North Texas, I shouldn’t be too disappointed. TEXAS A&M: The Aggies are about the only sleeper I have left. I have them in my Elite Eight after an upset win against Duke. So here’s hoping the right set of Aggies emerges from their first round match up against Utah State. So in retrospect as of 10 pm I’ve already lost 2 Sweet Sixteen teams and have had none of my upsets come through, so I’m now hoping the late night games and all those Friday Games can make up for it. Re: The Madness Is Here Now that we're through the 2nd round, most brackets are busted. Kansas bowing out to Northern Iowa and many other #2 and #3 seeds really makes it now a wide open tournament. The Big Ten is hanging on with the Buckeyes, Spartans and Boilers, although it could very easily be just the Bucs at this point. Purdue and Michigan State had last buzzer beaters go to advance. One thing is definitely clear over the last few years, mid-majors who have mostly 3-4 and sometimes 5 year players are going toe to toe with the Big boys, many of whom are using one-and-done freshman. Experience pays!
