Prep Baseball Roundup: Snider, L-B shut down Van Buren

Griffin Snider tossed a three-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and four walks to lead Liberty-Benton past Van Buren 6-0 Wednesday in the Blanchard Valley Conference baseball opener for both teams.

The Eagles (1-1, 1-0 BVC), who hung a five-spot in the fourth inning, got a double, single and an RBI from Tyler George and a single and an RBI apiece from Griffin Hohman and Marshall Rose.

Brandon Bell, Angel Garcia and Cody Word each singled for the Black Knights (0-1, 0-1).

MCCOMB — McComb’s Caden Schroeder allowed one baserunner via a walk during his 13-strikeout no-hitter to push the Panthers past Arcadia 9-0 in the Blanchard Valley Conference opener for both teams.

Schroeder also tallied three hits, one a triple, at the dish with two RBIs while Tanner Schroeder had a double, a single and two RBIs.

Tyler Bommarito added a single, a double and two RBIs for the Panthers (3-0, 1-0 BVC).

Starter Tristan Martinez allowed three earned runs on five hits in one inning of work to take the loss for the Redskins (1-2, 0-1).

RAWSON — Matt Johnson powered through a complete game and Arlington baseball coach Tom Yates picked up his 200th career win as the Red Devils drubbed Cory-Rawson 14-6 in a Blanchard Valley Conference game.

Johnson allowed six runs on five hits, while the Red Devils (1-0) scored 14 on six hits led by Nathan Russell’s two hits and three RBIs.

Kyle Schultz doubled and Ethan Korpics and T.J. Washer had RBI singles for Cory-Rawson (0-1).

PANDORA — Levi Gazarek struck out seven and roped two hits at the plate in leading North Baltimore to an 8-3 Blanchard Valley Conference win over Pandora-Gilboa.

Gazarek picked up the win in four innings, while Tyler Durfey notched a save over the final three frames for the Tigers (1-1, 1-0 BVC).

Lee Marinelli paced the Rockets with two of their five hits.

The Rams scored three times in the first inning and made a winner of Jevon Dible, who struck out 12 and allowed just two hits in a seven-inning outing.

NORTH ROBINSON — Jake Johnson’s two-run home run highlighted a seven-run second inning that powered Colonel Crawford to a 12-7 win over Carey in the Northern 10 Conference baseball opener for both teams.

Johnson added a single and Blake Treisch had two hits and drove in two runs for Colonel Crawford (3-1, 1-0 N10).

Jonathon Racheter (1B, 2B, 2 RBI), Brayden Wentling (2-1B) and Easton Roark (2-1B) all had two hits for Carey (1-1, 0-1 N10).

Mohawk’s David Dietrich and Carson Weinandy each stroked a double and a single with a run batted in. Parker Brown had a pair of singles and an RBI for the Warriors (1-1, 0-1 N10).

Austin Harper, who struck out seven and walked one, pitched a six-hitter in suffering the loss.

Colin Phillips homered and singled for the Pirates (1-0) while Braden Edwards singled and plated three runs.

Jason Moots doubled and singled for USV (0-1).

Reid Spencer doubled, singled and drove in two runs in pacing the Mustangs to the win.

Losing pitcher Shane Weihrauch singled and knocked in two runs to lead the Polar Bears, who committed seven errors.

FORT JENNINGS — Two-run doubles by Derek Luersman and Connor Stechschulte ignited three-run rallies in the first and second innings that powered Fort Jennings’ baseball team to a 7-1 nonconference win over Ottoville.

Austin Luebrecht (2-1B) and Luersman (1B, 2B) had two hits each and Sam Vetter and Stechschulte both drove in two runs. Luebrecht also earned the win with four innings of two-hit ball. Aaron Sealts pitched three innings of hitless relief for the Musketeers (3-2).
