Prep Roundup: Findlay’s Layne dives to state

BOWLING GREEN –Lexie Layne punched her ticket to state for the second straight year when the Findlay High School sophomore placed second on Tuesday in the Division I district diving competition held at Bowling Green State University’s Cooper Pool.
Layne, who won last week’s sectional title with a score of 422.25, posted a school-record score of 443.35 for her 11 dives on Wednesday. That bettered the previous FHS mark of 443.20.
Layne earned all-Ohio honors her freshman year when she finished 10th in the state meet with a score of 439.05.
Toledo Waite’s Anna Campos defended her district crown with a score of 498.05.
Three other Findlay High divers also competed on the first day of the district swim meet. Margeaux Lazar placed 23rd (129.50) and Baylee DeMuth 29th (108.10) in the girls competition. Lucas Gerken was 13th (255.95) in the boys meet.
The top five boys and top six girls in the Division I diving competition qualified for next week’s OHSAA state championships at Canton’s C.T. Branin Natatorium.
In Wednesday’s Division II diving competition, Ottawa-Glandorf’s Nicole Teffenhardt was the top area competitor as she finished 20th with 214.75 points. Alaina Schimmoeller ended up 24th for the Titans with a 135.9.
Sandusky Perkins’ Erica Henrichsen won the girls district title with 440.8.
Coldwater’s Caleb Keck captured the Division II boys diving crown with a district record 493.3 points.
Ottawa-Glandorf’s Kevin Recker finished 16th with 247.15 points.
The top nine Division II divers qualified for state.
The Division II swimming events begin at 3 p.m. on Friday. The Division I swimming events are set for 3 p.m. on Saturday at BGSU.

Sectional bowling set
The postseason for prep bowlers across the state begins on Friday as area teams open sectional tournament play at a pair of sites in northwest Ohio.
Fostoria and Lakota will compete in the Division II sectional at Port Clinton’s Star Lanes.
Ottawa-Glandorf and Patrick Henry will head to Napoleon to compete at River City Bowl-A-Way Lanes.
Girls sectionals begin at 5 p.m. Friday while the boys will compete at noon on Saturday.
The top four teams and top four individuals not on a qualifying team advance to next week’s Division II Northwest District bowling tournament at Rossford’s Interstate Lanes.
