Women’s Basketball: UF survives OT thriller against ODU

The University of Findlay and Ohio Dominican’s women’s basketball teams were destined to go to overtime.
Ultimately, the Oilers made enough plays in overtime to come out on top 88-86 in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference thriller Tuesday night at Croy Gymnasium.
“It’s really big for us,” UF senior Lynsey Englebrecht said. “Getting in close games, a lot of the times last year we would’ve lost that game.
“This year, it’s completely different and we are really fighting through adversity. It’s really fun to be a part of something where everybody is involved.”
Findlay kept its winning streak alive at 12 games and is now 12-1 overall, 9-0 in the GMAC.
The two teams traded eight lead changes and 16 ties over the course of the night.
The Panthers (9-4, 5-2) made four of their 10 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and scored three more buckets off offensive rebounds down the stretch to keep pace.
Englebrecht (17 points) knocked down a jumper on UF’s first possession of overtime and later a dagger of a 3-pointer that gave the Oilers a 90-86 lead with less than 30 seconds remaining,
The senior guard didn’t have her normal hot shooting night, going just 2 of 6 from 3-point range just three days after setting the school record with eight triples.
“Having a rough shooting night, it happens,” Englebrecht said. “I just try to keep my confidence up and catch it in rhythm. It was a good skip pass. I just try not to think about the other ones.”
Englebrecht also made two free throws with 4.7 seconds remaining to tie the game 80-80 and then picked off the inbounds pass to prevent ODU at a look to win it in regulation.
“It’s always a little bit of pressure because normally I don’t get to the foul line,” Englebrecht said. “I just tried to keep my cool.
“(On the steal) I think it might have been a bad pass, I only got a hand on it. The feeling of that was just awesome because we were able to get the ball.”
Haley Horstman led UF with 20 points and Anna Hintz notched her fourth double-double of the season with 19 points and 15 rebounds.
Three ODU players scored at least 20 points: Darian Rose (23), Emily Thomas (21) and Sarah Futscher (20, 13 rebounds).
